Channeling the floor

Has anybody ever built footwells in the inside for more foot room. Most bodies I have seen are channeled over the frame but floor sits on top of frame. Could this be done for more foot room even if master is under dash.Just an idea for more leg room for us taller folks.

That actually could work. Seems I remember seeing VW kits that had foot wells and seat wells. As you stated, master cylinder location would have to change.

The problem with foot wells is the loss of foot space. As you lower the floor, the trans starts eating up the floor area. In a stock T roadster the floor was acually even with the door sill so you have the same potential floor as an original. The 2 things we change are a larger trans and a lower seat. A stocker is really pretty comfortable with a 12" seat riser and cushion and a flat floor.

Hey Ron I know you and you are not 6 foot tall either.

The next one I build for myself will have a recess foot well. My '27 is not channeled, so I get the benefit of a few extra inches on a channeled body, but I have seen several '27 that have creatively lowered their floors. I would start with the frame following the body line as close as possible than lowering the floor to the bottom of the frame or more. my '27 has a frame rail cover that is 6" deep, so I could actually lower it more than that if I could pull it off with the right floor support--much like a corvette. Yes, the tranny gets in the way, but dropping the floor a few inches makes a huge difference on feeling like I'm "sitting in the car" or "sitting on the car". I do have a MC that is under dash, and that does clear up some space. Again, Its all personal preference and I'm pretty happy with mine now, but I'm always thinking of ways to make the next one better!

That is exactly what I was thinking going down as far as the body line.

No I'm not Putz and I'm not thinking of trying to put size 12 shoes in a funnel either.
