Coating on Engine ???

I used KBS olds gold on my motor cause I really liked the pic they had online. Welp, it didn't turn out close as advertised. (shocking) So now I'm wondering if I can paint over the coating, what type of paint should I use if I go over it? I'm a begginer at all this and dont trust myself with a gun yet, at least not with my 50 caddy engine. Also I hear that this type of paint doesn't have UV protection so will it fade on me?
Or do i just leave it and run with it.

Hahaha....theres alot of Painting Guru's that will be along shortly....2 talents I'm totally lacking at, thats at fiberglass work and painting. I'm a conessouirre of all things black....hahaha....Rattlecan.
Give me a motor, and I'll have folks wanting to tear it down to see if its legal or not.
What is it you don't like about the motor you did, Gloss? The Shading?
Most of the guys here just use paint to match their bodys, though I like a more convential approach....Black with shiney accents here and there.... Looks good to me but would be better if we could see it close up....
Most motors if the block and heads were prepped correctly, will not shed its paint, except right there close to the exhaust ports it will burn off.
Need a good clean cast block, thats the best starting point.

image.jpg The only issue is the color didn't come close to the color I saw on the add. I'm not worried about it flaking.
It's dull and darker than what I saw on the ad. I prepped the motor right and it was clean enough to eat off of!
With that being said. I'm a todal begginer. I wish I had more to add to the form, but other than dropping a couple of bucks to it when I can I'm not much help.
Can I use a coat of clear? What is the right type of clear and best brand?
And Screemin Metal I'm with you on keeping things simple and add accents to it.the frame and body are going black and down the line when I can afford a couple grand I'll get a 3 Duce set up for it. But for now I just want it up and running.

How far along are you in your build? If you are still in the process of fabbing and putting things together, I would not do a thing for now.

I had mine apart at least 3 times before it was done, then I blew it apart again for paint once all the bugs were worked out. That was the next year. It was my first build as well, so I did not want to spend all the time/money on making it pretty if I had to fix something.

You should be able to clear coat that, I would look up the manufacturer and see what it says about coating over top. Might have to wait a bit for it to cure??

In my experience, a clear can darken the color- if you try a clear, do it on a sample piece first, or you may really not like it.

Everything's fabled. Going with the CCR long body and frame. Should be picking it up again next week. This will be the 3rd time blowing up the the frame and Jerry's finishing welding the mounts that were tacked. I don't trust my welds on anything that will put my family in danger going down the road
Jerry's been great answering a lot of dumb ????s

They sell a clear coat. KBS Diamond Finish.

How many coats did you put on?

One coat, full can from their motor coat kit. Brushed on. It's well coated. Cured good, no soft spots.

Anyone use the diamond finish before.?

Let me also add that underlying tint also has a bearing on the overall color. Certain colors call for certain primers. As your Motors paint cures, it will also get darker and duller. I know some folks mix in the clear with the paint, makes it shiner and more depth....

Yep it was a score on the motor! Came right out of the original car. the new owner wanted a whole new front clip. It had been rebuilt 3 years prior.
