Edelbrock dual quad manifold and carbs

Has anyone over used one of these complete setups with Edelbrock dual quad intakes and two 500 carbs? I am curious about driveability with a 500 hspr sbf.

It is getting up in the price range and I am torn between that and just upgrading to Fast EzEfi.

Jay I have not had any dealings with this set up but before I spent that kind of money I would put a few hunert more with that and go EasyEFI and be done with carbs....I have seen these EFI units in play and they work great.............my .02........

I've set up 3 of these, the 1st one was a total nightmare....on a mostly stock small motor. The one for the BigBlock came out good, wasn't too bad to tune, then the 302 cam in. Once the powervalves were set, got the timing where it was good, she was sweet. Took some wrenchin' though....
The 302 was a solid lifter .525 lift, 265 dur., (put the cam in straight up, which came out 1 degree advanced)(Coyles Hex-A-Just) 10.5 to 1, MSD ign., once timing was good, carbs were able to be set fairly quickly.

The Injection will run better, quicker, better mpg. Gotta keep it fed with good clean fuel. Todays fuel is total crap, the EFI can usually be tuned quicker, just use your laptop in a few minutes. The carbs are great, I love them, its all in what you want.
If you wanted the perfect setup, get a good used 2X4 manifold, about $100 at a swap meet, then get 2 injection bodys with whatever EFI system you want. Best of both worlds....

With the EFI, the rings and motor overall will last alot longer, cause your always putting in just what the motor needs and no more.

I was actually thinking that but ez-efi with dual throttle body setup is almost $3k. Then a guy starts thinking for a bit more I could do a TMW stack efi. Then it spirals out of control....lol
:)

Jay money controls everything me thinks...............

Both dad and I are running dual 500 edels with progressive linkage
His is an edelbrock intake SBC on a 350. Mine is an offy manifold for sbf 302. The edels work pretty good and neither have any streetability issues. We drove them from Indy to the nats in Chattanooga a few weeks ago. Trick is to adjust the progressive linkage so it runs on one carb till you really step on it.

We are running exactly the setup you are asking about on my Son's T bucket. 306 CI Ford roller cam motor with worked 73 heads, X 303 cam, flat top pistons, etc. We installed it right out of the box with no jet changes or anything and it runs perfectly. No plug fouling, idles great, no bog on take off, etc. Great setup. Here is Dons intake.

I am running almost the same setup except I have an Offenhauser 2 x 4 intake with two 600 cfm Edelbrocks. My motor is a 331 stroker, roller cam motor with X303 cam, Edelbrock Performer RPM heads, flat top pistons, etc. Mine is just as smooth and I can lug down in high gear to 1000 rpms step on the gas and pull right away with no hesitation or bog.

Everyone says 1000 or 1200 cfms is too much for only 306 or 331 ci, but like Don my plugs burn clean and when you open up all 8 barrels you hang on.:D Go for it, you will not be disappointed. Here is my intake.

One of my biggest concerns is when idling. I don't want to be choked out but it sounds like everyone has had good luck with them. It is just an expensive piece to buy and find out you don't like. :geek:

Jay, just let me say this, its a good setup, if you like dual carbs....They have the metering rods in them like the Q-Jets and the whole top comes off for ease of tuning. Neat. I had coated the Bottom carb gaskets with chapstick so I could pull the carbs off repeatedly without tearing up the gaskets, but they were really close.
The post I made about changing powervalves....I meant jets, these things don't have PV's....The only thing I noticed was the slide bar that hits the stop on the progressive linkage was dragging, after some powered graphite was sprinkled in there and worked a little, all was well. 1" spacers work well with these....

The reality of it is that any multiple carb setup is not QUITE as sensible as a single four barrel, or (gag, gag) fuel injection. That is just a fact of life. However, nothing also is cooler and looks better on a hot rod than 2 or more carbs sitting on top of a big V8 motor. I am just old fashioned, and while I love the fuel injection on my daily driver I also keep the hood on that one closed.:) On a hot rod there is no way in the world I would ever consider injection............sorry, that is just me.

The great thing about Edelbrock carbs is that they are slightly detuned out of the box. There is an old saying that "Holley carbs will win on race day but an Edelbrock will get you home from the track" and that has been my experience. Holleys do not like dirt, even a spec you can hardly see will jam up the needles and flood it. I have run two 600 cfm Carter/Edelbrocks on my 27 for 24 years and they have never missed a beat. I even drove my 27 in rainstorms that should have drowned out the motor many times, and still zero problems.

Trust me, put those two carbs on top of you motor and you will feel like Superman has nothing on you.:D
