Front Axle

A lot of talk about using a econoline axle with pre 77 mid size vehicle rotors. Has anyone every run a chevy van axle such as the econoline? It appears about the same, which I'm sure there not but there was a lot of these made too.

My concern would be the unsprung weight. I'd think a dropped tube axle would be more desirable.

Now days with the high price of special hot rod parts, if you have a van axle complete, you can make them look and work great, I would use that to get yourself on the road, and see how well you like T Buckets, that would be a fun and cheaper way to get one together and it would save a lot of money... I am thinking of trying one myself... Makes for a good older look, plus they will stop on a dime and are more than strong enough ... :hi:

We used them way back in the late 60s in gassers. By the way we can sell you a new dropped tube axle for $150.00

I used the axle from a 65 chevy G- Van. I converted it to disc brakes using 74 Nova Rotors and Gm itermediate calipers

Icet,

74 Nova should be a popular? I will check my Hollander manual. Did you use the pre 78 intermediate calipers or the 78 and later metric ones?

Not sure what year my axle is, but I'm thinking all of them around that year model is the same.

Thanks for the info. Starting getting some items together for my Ratrod. After I get my T finished.

well i am using an axle from a 60's ford econoline, from what i have looked at and mocked up i think it will work great, but any info on the using any late model parts on this set up would be very nice to know,, also i hear you all talk about a book of knowledge for working on t-buckets etc , HELP, i have built many cars but this is my first street rod.
