Front suspension options

Hi all,

I was looking at front end on UK Gerrys bucket & thought its about the cleanest design I have ever seen for a bucket.

Ive seen a few torsion bar front ends look pretty clean too - especially when compared to the more commonly used traditional buggy spring & upright-ish shocks.

So, Im guessing that the buggy spring/upright shocks is the most commonly used because its possibly cheaper, or easier to set up, or it works best.

Any thoughts from those who know stuff?, and Gerry or Danny, can you let us know how that design works out on the street.

Cheers
Todd

Design of front, rear ends and chassis is down to a guy called Wimble. No one does Ts like him. I wouild have to say that A LOT of work has gone in to make it all work correctly though.

I guess I am lovin the old T Bucket look, and coils are not an old look to me, but most of what we use today is also not old T looking.
So; It is to each his own, I like the way leaf springs work on a straight Axle setup.. I remember when Dan Woods first came up with that opposed coil front end springing, he tried it a while on the street and was not all that Happy with it as it was, then... He said the main pivot arms needed a real good bearing setup... Ride safe whatever you drive, and keep your nuts tight hehe I did a new blog on my myspace blogs, about safety verses vanity,,, as we seem to pick Beauty over safety a lot...

You should know that I RESPECT your views and experience, after all you have built more Ts than I ever will. Its personal choice as you say and ever since I saw LST I wanted one.
Safety is a prime concern of mine as it is yours. We have spend hundreds of hours pouring over the parts on this T to make sure its a safe ride. I am hoping my background in mech eng will hold me in good stead.
My pivot arms run on needle rollers so with any luck they should work. If they have a problem we will think again.
To keep these cars on the road we MUST be as safe as a production cars??? otherwise the 'authorities' will do what they do best and take them off the road.

Are you installing antilock brakes and airbags then?LOL

You can have those type of brakes, cost wise, but they work great at the roundy round race tracks,or any clean surface... Gerry I figured you already had a great bearing setup in your's, but other's would probably not have, like Dan did on his, got in a hurry to get it tested I think, and probably turned out to be temporarily permanent... You mentioned safe as a production car, well I hope we can surly do way better than that!! hehe

Sighnin off
