Hauling car

My car may be going to carlisle PA this year. I live in rochester, ny so its going to be a hefty haul. The car is going to be on a trailer but how do you guys cover them without the wind causing damage? i have a car cover but i would think constant wind would damage the paint or something from constant rubbing. Also is a car cover fully water proof? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I definitely would NOT put a car cover on it. The paint will be beat to death. The odd time I use my open trailer I just chance it and ride open.

Don't put a cover on it becasue as fordsbyjay said the paint will be damaged.............If you use an open trailer you just have to be ready to clean it up when you get to where your going........

..I have seen people wrap the car with the shipping type saran-wrap used to ship things on pallets but that cost some and you still run the risk of paint damage. On an open trailer it's not much diffrent than driving as far as bugs and dirt.......

See if you can find a semi-truck spoiler , the kind that fits on the cab, mount to the front of the trailer, pull the nose of the T up into it, keeps most of the road junk off your car. A friend picked one up for about $50.

If you didn't mind snaps you could make a cover like those old british cars had that just snap over the inside of the car.

I have covered the nose of my Corvette with kitchen type Saran Wrap and just peeled the bugs and junk off it it when I got where I was going.

I agree you will do more damage with a cover than just trailering it naked. (not you being naked, but the car ) The tarp will be blowing around and beat the body and paint up pretty bad. We just trailered my Son's rpu 5 hours each way to an event uncovered, and it was dirty, but dirt washes off. The tow vehicle seems to keep stones and stuff off pretty well.

thanks for all the input guys, i work where i have plenty of access to pallet saran-wrap. i was more worried about the rain then the bugs.

Hauling a car on an open trailer is not much diffrent than driving the car. I would not cover the car with any type cover if it was mine.......
......I would just clean it up or dry it out when I get to where I was going, rather than having to paint all over again........Been there and done that.......again my .02 worth.
