Gerry that’s really nice. I’m going to sit on this headlight wire thing for a bit while I get some others things done.
On to rebuilding my rear end. picked up a donor rear a couple weeks ago with a good differential and some 3.08 gears. Tore it down last night and checked it over. Time to get these parts in my T rear.

I'm running a 3.08 in mine (TH 350 auto trans), and really like it. Great for cruising, and I have no trouble beating the Mustangs away from a stoplight! :D I have fairly small rear tires (26.5" dia) and even so, I'm only turning 2,350 RPM at 60 MPH.

Spanky. I was looking for a rear with 2.73s but found a his one for the right price of $100. So 3.08s it is.
 
I think you’re better off with the 3.08. I have a 2.73 in my bucket. It just doesn’t get up and go like it should unless you put your foot into it. I’d rather have a bit
higher number.
 
Indycars what are you three wires for? I have four. High Beam, Low abeam, Turn Signal and Ground.
I have a separate light for turn signal that is not shown in my photo. The the three wires are
Ground, Low Beam and High Beam.

Got my T rear out and mostly torn down. Needs a good cleaning, some fresh paint and put back together with the new parts. Check out how dirty the inside of those axle tubes are. Never seen anything like it. Good thing I have this handy parts washer.

Alright. Donor rear and T rear are both torn down. This adds up to a whole lotta parts. Spent most of the day clearing up my T rear and then laid some primer on it so it stops rusting. I would have never guessed I could have gotten this thing in my parts washer without making a mess but it worked out well. A dollar store toilet brush works well for cleaning out the axle tubes.
Next is to put it back together. I have all the parts I need now assuming the summit box that I haven’t opened yet is my rebuild kit. Should be interesting swapping them out. I’m going to do some measuring on the pinions and the pinion shins and see if I can make a very educated guess on where to start with that. I suppose in theory I should be able to just use the factory shim but that is making a huge assumption that two 10 bolt housings made 18 years apart are exactly same. I’m just going to assume that it’s not going to work out that way...

Do you have the yellow paste to help see how the gears are messing or maybe you only need to
measure back lash with a dial indicator. Not a rear end person, at least in the automotive world.

Seems someone has been neglecting his yard mowing duties ! :)

I do have the yellow paste. I’m not worried about getting it right. Just curios how many re shims it’s going to take me. Last 10 bolt I did, got it on the first try. The one before that took me ten or eleven times to get it just right.
 
Spanky - I have a whole rear ends worth of extra parts minus the diff now!

what do you all think about this. I like the drive side but not sure on the coast side. Used gears..
Going to let it sit for the night. Have to chase some kids to bed! :/

Got the center section back together fully and just put the brakes back together. Except one of the spring caps. It went flying. I think maybe to the moon. Going to have to go get a new one tomorrow.

Got the brakes all together today after giving my wife’s car some attention. When I was a looking for the projectiled spring cup last night I saw her car was leaking oil out of the drain plug. So a fresh oil change and a new plug seal was in order. Then of course it was nearly out of gas, so I took it to fill it up and ran it through the wash for her. Hoping that scored me some brownie points for what’s coming next...
After all that I decide to put the axles in my rear. They slide right in and I seated the c clips nicely. Gave the diff a spin and it made some crazy noises. Hmm. Spun one of the axles and the diff didn’t spin with it. Turns out I must have mixed up how many splines my originally rear had. New diff has 28...axles only have 26. I checked the sliders to see if I could just swap them out from the old diff. No go there, so now I need some new axles. Got some ordered. Was tempted to get some nice moser axles but I figured some stock replacements should be plenty.
 
My differential is 10 bolt from a 2000 Camaro. It has 3.40 gears & limited slip with factory disc brakes. I have disc brakes @ all 4 corners.
