Starting on the rebuild.

Banging the gears. With an automatic?

My TP shifter arrived today and all I can hope is that it works as sweet as it looks. I used to have a Lokar and as nice as it looked, it seemed to have one thing I was concerned about. That dang $3 piece of threaded rod that went from the shifter to the tranny bracket.

The TP shifter I got today has a SOLID rod, with a heim at each end. It's nice and solid and mounts to the top tail bolts on the tranny. It's meant to have the knob sit close to the floor, when finally installed, but I think I can make a slightly longer arm for it, if I need to. Pics to come tomorrow.

Oh, the radiator came today and it's gonna work fine. I'll make a nice sturdy bracket for it and drop her in.

Looks like a test drive Saturday is a GO!

Whoa there cowboy, make sure you put water in that there rady-ate-er. Don't need any mistakes like the oil thing this close to drive time.
Have fun!

Thanks for the heads up! I was thinking to run it dry, but Texas doesn't have a "dry" heat, so I'll put some water and anit-freeze in it.

At this stage, I'm watching what I do and tightening all bolts and fasteners. Heck, I even reread my build thread as well as everyone else's build thread to make sure I don't miss anything.

Fred, watch the clearance on those heims. I've got to do a mod. on the mounting bolts and tabs as my tranny will not shift into D2 or D1.

Hi Fred,

Im the spelling police today:D and I know how you get on with your local police department.

On your number plate surround pikky (post 193) you spelt "YIELD" as "YEILD".

To make your "failure to YIELD" statement, you need to redo the plate surround.

Sorry to be a pikky bugger, but you gotta have it right for maximum effect

Cheers
Todd

Yeah, I know. People will just think its Kiwi and not give it another thought.

Yeild or yield ?

I didn't notice and probably no one else will.
Well, eccept a few of you. IMO doesn't really matter, I am grateful that Ron did what he did. It's a nice gesture from Ron and I'm gonna keep it as is. Kinda goes on with the character in my rebuild.

OH NO I BEEN CAUGHT :eek::eek::eek:

I wasn't worried about it and didn't nitoice. Frankly, I don't care. It fits great and no one who has seen it in person noticed. At this point, I'm making brackets for the radiator, hooking up the shifter and doing the rest of the wiring

Test drive

First off, kudos to the TP shifter. It went on without a giltch. So, I was feeling good and took Miss Fortune for a spin. Well sctually a couple spins.:welcome: The shock setup drives like a dream. I went a mile or so at 65mph and she did great. Didn't get any wheel shake or shimmy or bounce. She just drove.

Sorry, no cam for the big day. I was busy... driving:D

.no cam. Glad you got to go for a spin felt good didn't it

Yup,felt like a $5 whore at a bankers convention! I looked at the TP shifter and installed it. Next thing I know I'm going around the block. After another pass, I realised I need some gas in the tank. I went in to pay amd looked out the window of the store. Folks just love hot rods and I answered as many questions as I could.

Dang I love this!:welcome:

The Wife and I just got home took the longest trip yet at one time went about 60 mile round trip and a pass up and down main drag ,,The wife say's that the little car is now call the thumbs up car ,,Everyone would wave and smile and a lot of people would give a thumbs up ,,Man this is fun !!

Isn't it worth all the time and worry? These cars rock!:welcome:

They do! My wife and I always get thumbs up and and lots of room from fellow motorists when cruising. Even bikers give a wave. I'm glad I bought bucket over a Harley. T's get more respect on the road than bikes.

Glad your :welcome: got pegged. Some how Fred, we need to get you and Barry Meguiar hooked up, because you are certifiably Car Crazy!

The bikers do and I think it's because driving a hot rod or a bike puts you out of the shell of the average commuter. People trapped in a steel shell and not driving, just aiming. Playing in the cicus of going from point A to point B. Boring.

There is a great amount of freedom when you sit in your hot rod and go for a spin. It just feels good. I let kids climb in my car and adults too. The smiles on their faces are priceless. I took a guy for a spin last summer and he's probably still smiling. My mechanic friend wants to build one now. After yesurdays "test runs", he's hooked even more than before.
