Starting on the rebuild.

Fred, looks great, if you ran a shorter pitman arm, would there be more steering effort? Not to rag on ya, but, the arm does look a little low and the angle does look a little off. Thats all I`m going to say. Hope your runnin` real soon!

By the way, I`m jealous, be safe, John.

No problem, John. In that pic, the wheels were slightly turned, that is why the arm is going forward. I think what I'll do is post the measurement between the pavement and my arm. That way it will be clearer.

Would a shorter arm make it harder to steer? Don't know. Never had a short arm on it.

Fred's pitman doesn't look much lower than mine. I haven't hit anything. A belated happy B'day Fred and thanks for the info. Car's looking great and I can't to hear form you how the ride is with the hydraulic shocks and how it handles with the slightly taller, wider radial tires up front, and the radials on the rear.

Fred, your car now has a great looking profile. I really like the way it sits now compared to before.

I am also glad to see that you have conquered your "devil", electrical wiring.LOL

Keep up the good work and you'll be on the road again in no time.

Jim

All the talk on this board about wiring nightmares is nothing compared to the new cars I am working on .They would give Me more grey hair if it wasn't all grey already.

Ex Junk, I didn't post this earlier because it would have sounded kinda goofy. When I reconnected everything, I kept thinking of ALL the times I had called you with questions and requests for advice. When I finally connected everything up, I actually said to myself, "If these lights come on, it's really gonna make my day." I connected the battery, put the key in and turned it to ACC, and pulled the light switch. The lights came on and I almost cried. To look over the windshield and see the glare of lights on the wall of my buddies shop, peep down and see the gauges all lite up nice and bright, then to walk around the back and see the tail lights nice and bright and even the license plate light lite up... i just felt so good.

I then cranked her over and she jumped to life and I saw that the voltmeter was reading low, but it was because I had only loosely placed the wires on the alternator. So, I tightened that and all was good.

The passenger side light had been broken in the wreck and I QUICKLY went to get a new one. The auto parts store has 'em in halogen. I may switch later. I put it in and hit the lights again and just sat in front of the car, looking at the glare coming off the lights.

This car is more than a car for me and if anyone reads the opening part of the original build, you'll know why. It's been a really long road from the time of the accident to this pont. I am lucky to have had the support, advice and ribbing that you and other members on this site gave me over the last 6 months. Some did more than that and they know who they are and how thankful I am. You and everyone here are truly a blessing.

I pick up the radiator tomorrow and after making the brackets for it, will install it. Then I'll mount the front turn signals and hope that was the problem with them not working yesturday. After that, I'll connect the new throttle cable. so I can goose her from inside the car. I also plan to order a better, smaller shifter and that will get here on Wednesday. Then, I'm gonna make all final adjustments and swap out the mock up bolts on the frontend for the good stuff.

So, basicly, I'm looking at a weekend test drive. I want EVERYTHING right and safe. Some have issued questions about the pitman arm. Fellas, it's fine, I assure you and if I ever think it's not, I have a spacer to raise the scrubline even higher. She's just fine now and I guess other than pics, you'd just have to come see it for yourself. You are more than welcome. Then we'll take a little ride.:D

The things that I know for sure right now, the new brakes are freaking AWESOME compared to the previous setup, she purrs like a kitten and she has all gears and she has lights. I know the front suspension is going to ride like a cloud, but I'll always miss those wire wheels up front.

Will there be a video? Come on... you guys know she's a movie whore!

Now a question. I'd like to have the front element in the aircleaner red. Does anyone have any suggestions? See..... I always come to you guys. My friends. For life and beyond.

Oh.... they just finished building a brand new Sonic drive-in up the street from me and on one of my main cruise routes.:D I plan to break that place in right.;)

In closing, I again want to thank ALL of you. Whether you are an older member or you just registered. Without friends who share a common interest NOTHING would be possible. To the guys just starting out, take your time and ask as many questions as you can.

Check to see if anybody around your area andonizes that would probably be your best bet.

Webmaster, is there a way to retrive the journals we used to have here? If so, please let me know. I'd like to save that to disc or something.

People ask if a short pitman are makes it steer harder, now that is from a person that does not understand leverage... One must understand leverage to make a car ride comfortable as well as stopping and steering, everything on a car depends on leverage, just go slow and really think about it, it will come to you... :)

If ya want soft steering.......... get a dang HONDA or a LEXUS! These are home built vehichles that we are blessed or cursed to be in to. NEVER ask for them to be like your regular ride. Work out the bugs and make them safe and then drive the hell out of 'em!

They're HOT RODS dang it!

She looks great Fred! I've enjoyed tracking her progress thru your rebuild thread.

Quick question for you...where did you end up getting your front wheels. I like the look and would love some on mine, but I'm looking in all the wrong places and can't find a wheel with the backspacing I need. For the record I have a 23 T kit from Total with the Wilwood disc brakes up front, and I need something along the lines of a 2" backspace. Please help...where did you get your wheels?

Early Wheels. Just tell them the back spacing you want.
