I was looking at other transmission options.
The 200-4r seems like it can be used.
Its the same length as the th350

I know the trans mount has to move back.

Any other reasons why I couldn't use a 200-4r?

I have a 200R4 in my Model A pick-up with a pretty stout 383 Chev in front of it. BUT these trans were originally built for V6 Camaros etc and the only decent ones were in the Buick Grand Nationals etc. I had a shop in Ca. build mine , but they specialised in them and knew all the tricks to make them live. I would recommend finding such a shop that builds Hi Performance transmissions not your regular local shop down the street. Other than that I love it. It does have the advantage of a 1st gear that's not as low as the 700R4's and an overdrive that's taller than a 700R too. Mine has a 3000 stall/non lock up converter in it as we didn't want to dick around with vacuum switches . computers etc. But it still get over 18 mpg

That 18 mpg. I like that :)
Does it have to be rebuilt if its being used with a 350 sbc?

I would , If it's an old Camaro V6 one it's not going to have the right clutch packs etc to handle a V8, and if it's one out of a Buick Grand National , it's probably had a hard life allready.
re: 18 mpg, Yes that is nice, as gas costs $8.50 / gallon here!

Nope , other than a friend of mine has one in his '34 truck and has a hand held controller hooked to it so he can change shift points and firmness while driving. He loves it and it gets great mileage too. He uses the factory lock up converter which is good for another 300 rpm drop.

I think I'm going to go with the 200-4r.

I read that its mount is in the same place as the TH400. Is that true?

know anything about the 4L60E.
the 4l60e is a good tranny but you have to by a computer to run it and that is over 500 bucks. i have a 700r and 4:11 gears and a mid build 350 and i get 16 mpg.I whould run the 200r untill it craps then have it built. if you aren't a throttle junky it will last in one of these light cars
