Engine Paint

In my attempt to step way outside the norms in hot rods, I'm turning my attention to engine paint. The color scheme I've settled on is going to have a Ford tractor blue frame, white body and detailed in Ford tractor red. But I want more color and I think going with John Deere green on the engine, transmission and rear end would give me the look I'm going for. The idea came to me when purchasing some John Deere yellow for another small part for the boat car.

I'm wondering if this would be a good buy.

And no, my boat car will not look like the Partridge Family bus.

And that's why I want him to come up with something better.

(This sucks not having money to work on my project. Can't wait till next week.)

I am gona surprise you and tell you that is a good choice for paint and color. The SS Minnow is going to look like she is ready to set sail on ole hwy 81 for all points north or south. After lookin at your pics i wish you would have shortened the frame before the center cut. I think the drive shaft will be cheaper than all that fill between the gaps. This is what i am thinkin. build your tubing frame in the shape you want. Cover it with plywood in the boat shape. Toss the fiberglass and chaulk it up to phase one. And move on to phase 2.I see a old chris craft type stearn covered and two seperate seating areas.

Yep she needs to be an absolute riot of color all the way round the chromatic wheel. And glossy, none of this matt stuff, no siree!
THe green is a good choice and will look well with the blue and white. Mmmm a bit of yellow too.
THe wheels bother me. Have you thought of green rims and white centres?

I'm glad you guys approve of my thoughts on color. I'm not too big on chrome. It just isn't my style. To me this project is like a blank canvas, just waiting for an artist to apply his craft. And this artist wants lots of color without it becoming a clown car. So far, I see John Deere Green and Yellow, Ford Tractor Blue and Red, and some regular white and black. The headers and glasspacks will be black along with the fake boat motor.

Rooster and Mango, I've taken your advice to heart. Well sort of. I'll be chucking the fiberglass with the exception of the piece that will be the hood. I really like the shape of the hood. I'm going to fiberglass new sides down to the 33 Chevy Master fenders I'll buy this winter. It will all be one piece and will hinge in the front. That way the hood and fenders will clear out of the way anytime I want to work on the engine. One thing I loved about my trikes is there was no body in the way. I could change the starter or the fuel pump in about 5 minutes. The carbureator could be taken off without climbing over the fender and so on. I'm just using the boat sides to get an idea of proportions, basically how tall, how wide, and so on.

This weekend (since I didn't have any money) was spent with a glass of iced tea in one hand and a pencil in the other. I've organized my ideas and sketched out a better floor plan. The more drawings I do the better it looks on paper. I'll just say this, I'm thinking 1933 Chevy Master front meets 1959 Cadillac rear with the shape of a boat in between. And one more thing, no wood, this baby will be all steel. I've figured out a way for the floor to bolt to the 66 truck frame and the sides to bolt to the floor and fire wall. That will keep my pieces just light enough that they can be carried with help.

The wheels bother me too, but hey, they're there until a decision on them is made. They're what the truck came with and they allow me to push the truck around the yard as needed. They will be the last decision I make, which could be awhile.

Here's a quick sketch

The boat won't quite have those fins, but it will be something like that.
