Harbor Freight Ramps

    I bought a set of steel ramps from Harbor Freight to use for oil changes and such. Unfortunately, when I try to pull the bucket up on them, the just skate forward.

    Has anyone else experienced this problem? Has anyone come up with a solution?

    Put a piece(s) of carpet or mat under the ramp, with enough sticking out so your tire is on the carpet before going up the ramp. The weight of the car should hold everything in place until it gets up on the ramp(s). ;)

    I used a 2X6 to roll up onto the ramp when it did that with me. Just NEVER try to jack up one side of the car while it is on the ramps, it will fold/roll over on the side.

    Spanky's idea is good also.

    I have two 8 foot 4 by 4s that I put between the back wall in my shop and the ramps. Had this same problem with ramps for decades. They all slide. I will try Spanky's carpet trick although the lumber does work like a champ.

    My ramps have a piece of angle on the front edge (edge facing down) that is about 3/8" below the side pieces. I just locate them in an expansion joint in the cement drive/floor and don't have a problem with them moving. If I don't locate them they move just the same as yours.

    I had wood ramps to get out of the garage. I would back up on them hold the brake slide them back until I clear the threshold drive forward remove the ramps and go have fun.

    Had a sharp drop off at the threshold and the car would high center. With the front wheels a foot n the air I had the necessary clearance.

    Bruce - $488USD is a a good portion of the way to a real two post lift. I can't afford either, but still buying lottery tickets!
