My ProjecTee

Hi CheapT ; I got it from RonPopeMotorsports aka eztbucket.com . Ron is selling the assembly for 114 dollars + shipping & any applicable tax.I would love to see photos of your R&P.

Regarding the master cylinder mounting, I don’t want to get into a pissing match with anyone but I think something as important as the master cylinder should be mounted on something more solid than a piece of plywood. The assembly in itself looks well made and solid. The fact it’s mounted on plywood is the part that would concern me if it was my bucket. I don’t want to see anyone get hurt, or worse, due to a design failure. Just sayin’!

DR, just an ah-ha: when you sit the car down on the wheels the spring will compress, and the R&P arms won't be centered in the hairpins then. I only mention this because I've been there...

My front suspension is in a full droop. The top radius rod lays on top of the r&p"s steering rod. The non-moving body of the Honda Del Sol R&P is too long. So , it's being replaced by a Chevy Cobalt R&P. It's pivot point is about 2"s past the outer edge of my frame. The racks steering rods should move up & down with the radius rods with the Chevy's rack set up. Then i can attach the rack closer to the bottom of my frame. I plan to measure the distance between the top of the rack's non moving body & the bottom of the 3" round pipe. I'll find the middle of the gap then attach my rack. That should work.

After the photo shoot , i was going to a special awards event at Walmart. All of america's walmart dignateries were gathered for the award's ceremony. Evidentally i had won the top award for returning the most disoriented & delusional Walmart employees. They were drooling profusely & wandering around in the Walmart's parking lot while uttering," welcome to walmart , welcome to walmart...". It was an easy task for me. I started playing my flute & they all gathered around me. I just simple led them back inside as they followed my music. Finis....es todo...OH! I almost forgot. I won a free genuine Walmart SHOPPING CART !!! Are you proud of me rubicon ??

You brighten my day with this post. LOL Keep posting pics. I'm enjoying your build.

More photos:DSCN1541.JPG DSCN1542.JPG DSCN1543.JPG I repositioned the rack ( moved it closer to the bottom of the frame rails ). Now the steering rods are centered between the radius rods when my car is off the jack stands. I took the photos with the suspension in a full droop. Thanks for the tip potvinguy.

Hello Donny Ray, I saw your post and took some pictures tonight. I've been busy doing "other duties as assigned" for everyone and haven't touched the project for quite a while. Beginning to see why it can sometimes take a really long time to completion. My rack is from an early 80's dodge omni. It looks like the fit will be just right. My mounts are from 1/4" bar stock. I took into consideration the loaded weight so I have a mock up block and trans in place. I added a few "plates" that I can't use any more for an extra 140 lbs on top of the block. That should account for heads, manifold, radiator and any other weight on the front suspension. Like I said before, I've never built a car from scratch before so I'm just winging it. I've read about some of the pitfalls and am trying to minimize them..

Are your steering rods going to be long enough ? My steering rods are too long !!
I'm currently on a quest to find tie rods with additional length or I'll use a coupler between the steering rods and tie rod end. I'll try to measure the length I need and post it. My other issue is that the socket for the tie rod is not tapered. I thought about using tapered inserts that I've seen online for that problem.

Just reread your post. I'll get a bunch of measurement for you tomorrow and post them. My steering rods are about 4" short of the steering arms.

I put a post in suspension tonight. Looking to see if anyone can identify my axle. Maybe you could have a suggestion?

Potvinguy & myself are both using female heim joints instead of tie rod ends. The female heim joint has a right hand thread.

FEMALE HEIM JOINTS:female heim joint.jpg Determine the diameter of your steering rods. Caliper the non threaded portion of your steering rods. Or ( if you have a nut that was threaded onto your steering rods ) use that nut to determine your steering rod diameter & thread pitch. Take the nut to your local LOWES store to find out your diameter & thread pitch ( go to the nuts & bolts section ). I used ebay to locate & puirchase the heim joints. I had a 14 millimeter diameter with a 1.50 thread pitch & a right hand thread. Here's what i typed in the ebay's search window : 14mm x 1.50 rh female heim joint. If yours turns out to be american diameter & thread pitch then enter the information like this: 1/2" x 1.50 rh female heim joint. Okay ?

STEEL CONE SPACERS FOR RADIUS ROD ENDS:steel cone spacers.jpg These are also available with a 3/16" hole , a 1/2" hole & a 5/8" hole.

To find longer steering rods search for other chrysler models that shared the same rack & pinion. The wider bodied models should have longer steering rods. Hope this helps/
