thanks RPM. I figured it out. I have had the kit for over 20 years and bought it from another guy so i had forgotten all I knew about it.

    Question Mustang Brakes

Hey guys. I need some help. Today I'm getting around to putting my front disc brakes on. I have all the parts and a Speedway kit to install on modified Chevy spindles (already modified). My problem is I don't remember exactly how the calipers fit into the caliper brackets. The part that I...

    Best Gear Ratio

When you encounter the vibration/pulsing at 2000 rpm, what happens if you change gears and hold the same speed? If the problem disappears it could be an exhaust harmonic. Chased that problem in a '35 Ford coupe many years ago, after drive shaft balancing, tire truing, and various engine tunes...

    interior trim help.

It's called a hide-em strip. You staple the upholstery material in place and then the hide-em strip on top. The strip has two flaps (sort of) and you spread them out to staple it down. Then the flaps go back into place hiding the staples.

    AmericanGraffiti's Project Diary

You might want to check to see how easy (or hard) it is to get into your bucket with the bottom of the dash as low as it looks to be. I know I have a tough time getting my size 13s between the dash and firewall. You'll also have a steering column to contend with. Just a suggestion.....

Rear Axle- Is Posi/Limited Slip All That Important?

I've never used a posi rear end in several street rods I have built. There are various reasons IMO. First posi units are more expensive and I always seem to be on a budget. Second in a light t-bucket with a short wheelbase if the rear end gets out from under you, you will go round like the...

    spring perch bones and caster

I don't think you can set all of your alignment figures at the point of your build that you seem to be at. What you are doing to figure the caster, rake, etc. can only be preliminary at this point. The actual numbers will come about only after you get everything put together...

Thoughts on build for a large person

I'm 6'2" but I still needed the extra room for my long legs (66 years don't make it easier either). I stretched my Speedway body 18" behind the door and have the bottom rear of my seat right on the floor. The body is not channeled either so that gives me another 3" of inside body height. The...

    Rear shocks for leaf spring

Check out rear shocks for a Suzuki Samarai. They are pretty short and for a light weight vehicle. They worked for me.

New to forum, first question on engine

My vote is for the slant 6. If you discard the argument for the SBC based on resale value, the 6 has a lot more cool than the 460. The dress up and hot rod parts for the Ford are no bargain, so no advantage there. If you can make or get parts fabbed at a good deal, the slant 6 still wins. I...

Metal or Wood for a floor low on space to my door?

A disadvantage of using steel is bonding to the plywood body. Plywood is easier and perhaps stronger to glass in place.

    High Boy or channeled ?

My project bucket (as in not finished yet) has a high boy type frame, no channel. I shaped the frame rails to follow the contour of the cowl section and lower body line. I too want as much foot room as possible (6'2", size 13 shoes). Also, I'm running the exhaust under the car so the frame...

Rack and pinion mounting to drop axle?

Using offset tie rod ends will not correct the geometry problem created by mounting the R/P ahead of the steering arms. It may look better but the effective line of action is still from the steering arm to the R/P regardless of how you get there.

    Rack & Pinion question

Tried that 40 years ago. Didn't work! Toe change was unreal!!! How about mounting the r/p to the axle and using an early Pinto flex steering shaft?????

    3" tube frame

In not knowing the exact history of the frame, I would opt to put a new chassis under it. The piece of mind in getting a safe platform for your ride outweighs any bucks you save using the old frame. Also, I don't remember 3" tubing ever being popular for frames.

rear window in your top or open? poll

Had a glass in mine to begin with but the top popped and flopped in the wind so I took it out. Rode a lot quieter that way.

I think you have it mounted upside down. (?)

    rear end

Well, that's not exactly the way to do it. But by your numbers you have about a 3.25 ratio. jon

    rear end

If you want to check the rear end ratio by counting drive shaft revolutions, here is a good procedure: Jack up one of the rear wheels. Keep the other one down or block it to keep it from turning. Mark the wheel that is jacked up so that you can see when it makes a complete revolution. Turn the...
