Skip White Chevy 406 short-block kit

Assuming you allready have a 350" in the car? personally , I would build a 383" (use one of Skip's kits) and use the money saved and put towards a good set of aluminum heads to put on it.

    front frame perch plate?

Sounds like an answer for a problem that doesn't really exist. Have you ever heard of a spring breaking? There are more serious engineering things to be concerned about, I reckon.

    Bad sad news

    RIP Mike.

How can I reduce the coolant temperature?

If you have an IR gun , shoot the outlet of the radiator too and see what temp the water is coming out of the rad. Then you can work out where the problem is. Is the motor making a ton of heat or is the radiator just not doing it's job well enough. As Potvin Guy says, has the car ever been...

    So does this sound right?

I'd definitely put a proportioning valve in, if you're running big & little tires. Helps stop the rear from locking up under hard braking. You may get away without it, but easier to put it in now , than have to re-hash your brake lines later.

    Quick Change artist

Mileage may get better there Potvin guy! , as the motor may get "up on the cam" and be in a rev range that it likes and everything is running smoothly. I've found that in one car I owned, as it must have been lugging the motor a bit , and mileage increased with a slightly lower gear. Not sure...

A question for Ford 9" experts

Why are you doing this? I'm assuming you want to order up some axles from Moser, Strange or similar. Those companies should have a work sheet that you fill your housing width, pinion center , brake offset etc on to and they work out what length to make the axles. let them work it out mate...

Maybe this is more your style? now the longest gravel hill climb in the World (since they sealed Pikes Peak) it's a run what you brung event. suspension thoughts for short wheelbase lightweight bucket

Why such a short wheelbase? stretch it out a bit, it'll ride much better for a start, and be easier to build and work on.

    Carb advice

465 Holleys, MSD6 ignition (or similar) a 3000 stall converter, and a good tune by someone who knows Holleys, and it'll be good! Mine was.

    Front Calipers Sticking

Make sure the brake pedal is returning all the way back. Sometimes it will stick on the floor , or carpet etc. and not completely return, thus, uncover the return port in the master cylinder. (personal experience)

    Throttle control advice T 23

Like most things , common sense applies. Cables work fine for most street rods. Just make sure it's routed nicely , with no sharp bends, and away from exhaust etc, and it should be fine. Hint:. Put the return springs going forward. This balances the load with the cable pulling back and the...

    Fuel delivery recommendation needed

Most good brands have a "street" version that is self regulating. Just run a good , full size filter before the pump, a 3/8" line with decent hose fittings, NOT 90 degree hardware store fittings They reduce flow something terrible. If you don't want to deal with AN aluminum fittings , most good...

    Cost of Paint Job

depends what he's painting. Does that include the chassis , rear end housng, head light buckets, suspension parts? etc etc. sounds pretty inexpensive to me , and you'll probably get what you pay for. I reckon good quality materials would cost that alone, so I'm not sure what he's gonna use. The...

    Tranny pan leaking

You may want to check the pan before re-install. Have a look at the bolt holes. Many times the pan is puckered a bit around the holes where the bolts try to pull through the thin steel pan. Gently go around with a small hammer and tap it all flat on a steel bench, and yes a light smear of...

An older article I just discovered

Yeah I love those old pictures of Jungle Pam! and love the old (70's-80's) Pro/Stock cars. Reading between the lines in Grumpy Jenkins "how to build a small block Chev" book, the 351 Clevelands were unbeatable when it came to making outright horsepower. The way Grumpy beat them was by building a...

    4 bar Or 4 link

Ex Junk is correct , a true drag race style 4 link(like the Pro/Stock cars use) has multiple adjustment holes, to put the front and rear ends of the bars in, to point them at a theoretical intersection point. (called the instant center) This affects how the car transfers weight, how hard it...

    200-4R tranny experts?

I have a 200/4R in my hot rod truck , built by a company in Ca. I don't have a lock up converter but noticed it won't go into O/D untill about 50+ mph, but this is controlled internally by the governor I believe , not the TV cable. I guess it's like the 700R4 and TV cable is VERY important, so...

    Anyone know what this is?

I'm pretty sure they are the axle breathers. and yes you will need some kind of vent to atmosphere other wise it will eventually blow oil out thru the wheel bearings or the pinion seal. I used to tap the axle tube 1/4" NPT and put a hose barb in there with a some rubber hose up out of the way on...
