Thanks. Is the side of a Model A undercut as much as a T body?

Thanks. Is the side of a Model A heavily under cut like these bodies?

I'm hoping to have only half of the upper hinge's barrel exposed. The bottom will be out there wherever it has to be.

The hinges I used were concealed. None of them showed when the door was closed. The difference is that with the concealed hinges the pivot point actually moves with the door.[IMG]

Interesting. I'm trying to visualize how these would work.

Which end attaches to the door?

I've pulled this off the net a long while back.

The guy was making these for AC Cobras. They look to be about 6" apart?

I might be able to something like this if it were mounted high.

    @RPM

Ron, could you cut these out of 3/8" plate?

Yes we can make those. We actually make something similar to those already, for a company and they use them on their Willys coupes, they build.

I'm gonna give this a shot.

4" wide hinges based on those designs. Mounted high on the door.

As long as you have room inside for the hinge, it should work out. That design basically changes the pivot point of the door, sort of like the swing away handicap accessibility hinges do. Cool idea!

You could make those with flat stock. As long as you used a template or something to allow repeatetive results. You may want to consider hardening them after fitting them. I could imagine them being suseptical to damage if someone put too much weight on the door when open.

Draw your door & jamb in the open position , then in the closed position , then play w/the hinge shape & see what works [what is the best compromise]..

This mono hinge is working. Here's what I planned out.

And an actual cut-off piece of the profile.

After three tries (three week ends), what a relief to mock it up and finally have no bind.

It's all just tacked and hot glued together for now. There's lots of beefing up to do.

I wanted to make sure it even worked before I put a bunch of time in it.

Thanks guys. You might have noticed, my confidence was shaken for a bit when nothing was working.

When I cut these door openings, it was game on, no turning back.
