Spring nut check . . .

While checking components on my T in anticipation of Spring cruising, I noticed a slight wobble on my right front wheel; when I grasped the top of the tire and wiggled it side-to-side there was a slight amount of play. My fix was to tighten the spindle nut until the wheel would not turn, then back off enough so it turned easily. Now, no wobble! I guess the wheel bearings develop a slight amount of play as they wear. Any thoughts?

Spanky I need some help , i am just attaching the front spindle to the axle and i remember the thin washers and the thick one and the brass thick one where all on the bottom of the axle on both sides seems to me the brass should be somewhere else ? Guy

Spanky, Are they newly done? Some times a new bearing assembly will require some time to seat itself correctly.
Guy, I thing you're talking about the kingpin assembly and thrust bearing in the axle.

Only cost you a couple hours and a pair of grease seals and some grease to find out whether or not there's a problem .....

The washers you refer to are probably shims, usually inserted below the bearing between the axle boss and the lower spindle boss. The "thick" one is probably a bearing - about 1/2" thick, I guess. Is that what you have?

yes and that's the way i installed it when removed the bearing was upside down so dirt and water could get in all set now Thanks Guy

I usually put the real thin shims above the axle boss so they have no pressure on them so they don’t get destroyed.

I looked all over town trying to find a small brush go on my drill to clean the power coat off bearings , no luck so i found a wheel on one of my air tools

Same thing just this weekend happened to me. New radius rods, king pins, wheel bearings, friction disc. Drove it to get alignment and everything was fine, no wobble, bouncing. Got cleaned up to take wife to dinner and had to turn around and head for the house. Thought the whole front was going to land in my lap. Check front wheel bearings this am and WOW! I know I pre-loaded them. Adjusted and new cotter pins. Tested at 60-70mph for about 10 miles and no problems. First time ever I have had to redo front bearings. Lesson learned. Always double check everything after initial shakedown.

Your race may not have been fully seated or maybe the bearing just seated... Heat cycle makes stuff move around a bit.

When I was racing we had to cotter pin everything in the steering and suspension ,,I did the same on my bucket.

I am not doing good getting front end alignment I tried the pipes on the front tires but I am not sure this will work on the T , getting down to the end restoring my T
