"Black Dahlia"

So, I was looking at my front end and the spacers I made are more visible than I thought. Or maybe it's just me?o_O Yesterday, after work, I got bored and swapped in a pair of the Zinc coated spacers. They look nice, but I'm not sure how long they'll stay that way. At any rate, they were cheap, so if the shine doesn't last, I'll just get another pair. On a side note, I'll be getting trim rings for my wheels next week.;)

I like it and think it was worth the effort, which was minimal.

Looks good. My only worry would be if the ball ever decides to part ways with the heim that's alot of travel (upwards) for the tie rod...........

I'm thinking it would take a a hell of a lot for the ball to part ways with the heim. In my application, there is practically no side to side or angled movement. It'll be fine.

Heim Joint failure

yep , one stategically placed bump & you'll know why most of us run safety washers....

And where in my HEIM application/use, would a safety washer come into effect? Are you meaning a lock washer under the nut? That would have to be a helluva bump.

Just to keep the ball from pulling out of the joint. No force that way in your application (imo). If you ever had that problem an outside force would be involved and you may well be at a stop or at least slowed down! Think Cop car! Lol

In other words, I'd have a LOT more to worry about, than if that ball is going to exit the joint.

Heims lived another day. Check out the clevis pins. If you can find them.;)

I always do. Some people wonder what would happen/fail in a wreck, well.... I have a pretty good idea.

I concur.

G'Day Fred,
What the guys are referring to is a washer between the head of the bolt and the Heim. You've chosen to use a 1/2 width rod end so there's not much to stop the housing dropping off the ball. A full width one (as in QA1) would be a better choice rod end in that situation.
Regards,
Mike.

Not that it would matter, but the rod end width is 5/8". Besides that, the force to push the housing off the ball would have to be tremendous. If anyone has examples of that happening, I'd like to see it and so would others.

these were my way of incorporating the bolt with a safety washer.

Gerry, you could make a mint selling those. I'd be your first customer. There's nothing out there like 'em.

Gets rid of the big ugly 5/8" nut and exposed threads too.
