The build is now beginning

Another thing that has helped me welding is to have a fairly bright light focusing on the areas where I am welding. Makes a big difference. It also helped me stay on my weld line so not to do as fletcherson mentioned.

I just bought a Miller darkening helmet with clear view technology and love it! It even came with 2 flashlights mounted to the sides. They are the slick trick for us old guys that need help staying on the joint to weld.

The bad part is keeping batteries on hand. Light in front is very helpful, just not on the sensor. I hate it shining in the back of my hat too, reflections. I often shut the shop ceiling lights off and use work lights because of it. Keeping the lenses clean is a never ending chore too. If fabricating or repairing on the table, etc, I do fine. It’s those awkward repairs in confined or obstructed areas that cause trouble. Sometimes squeezing the helmet in is a chore. Of course I have a hand held shield, but you almost need another hand. Ah, the woes of getting old! Sad part is I’m not all that old, just damaged from bumpy roads through life. A welding tips and tricks thread may be an interesting read. Sorry if I misdirected this one.

I got the front end finished up this weekend. Starting to work on motor mounts now.

My mother & twin brother both had cataract surgery many years ago ( zeiter eye ). Their vision was greatly improved. I also can do better welds if I have a light shining on the area to be welded.

Got my custom brackets from RPM for my motor mounts. I'm having cataract surgery Wednesday afternoon. Hopefully I will be able to weld better soon.

It sure helped mine! The new helmet helped too. It’s anMiller with clear view lenses. It also came with two flashlights on the side.

I got the other cataract fixed this week. Just about ready to get back to work. I was able to get the tube bender setup and ready to go.
