Track Bucket build

I can't get the photos to load from my phone so I will add them later when I have access to my computer.

I made some progress on the friction shocks today. The part that attaches to the frame is made of 2x3 unequal angle iron. It will be bolted to the frame with the headlights. I still need to trim down this mount that is sticking beyond the frame. The material in-between the shock arms are discs that I cut out of a sheet of UHMW plastic. This material had less static friction so it will result in a smoother operation. The slant six valve spring keeps pressure on the discs even if they start to wear down. This will still require regular checks with a torque wrench. Thanks to @Charrlie_S from another site for sending me the valve spring retainers. They work perfect as a washer for the nut to rest on and keep the spring centered. My buddy will weld a tab onto the leaf spring shackle and the heim joint shock links will attach there. I will probably add some speed holes to the shock arms later on.

Finally got the new intakes on the car and the carb hooked up only to discover the carb has a leak in the throttle shaft. I figured i would have a go at adding some bronze bushings to the carb body to fix the problem but when I took apart the base plate I found the throttle shaft was heavily worn and i could feel the edge where it was worn down. Found someone on another forum that has another Holley 2280 so i may get that one and swap the rebuild kit over. Or if the throttle shaft and base plate look good i may just switch them over to the carb i have.

Given what you've found on the shaft, it's odds on that the holes on the body casting will have wear also. If it's a separate base then you only need a replacement base.

Parts are available. Chances are the throttle plate is egg shaped as well.

It's hard finding parts for the holley 2280s. I had a few folks offer up old carbs for $50 but it's a gamble if those have a a decent shaft or base. I got the holley 2280 for free so i will only be out the $25 I paid for the rebuild kit. I ended up going with a NOS Stromberg WW carb someone on the slant six forum had. He has used 2 of those carbs before on 225 slant sixes and another member also used one on theirs with no issues. I will post updates once i get that carb and try it out.

I got the Stromberg installed and it runs great! I was even able to get it to idle at 425 rpms! Now I have to work on hooking up the throttle and kickdown cables, making a bracket for them and it looks like i will need to shorten the throttle cable and housing. Hopefully I will be able to get something together relatively easily. Then the car will be driveable again and I can take it over to my buddy's for some more welding.

Making some slow but steady progress. I made a bracket setup for the throttle and kickdown cables and the return springs. The 2 barrel carb drives nice and has a lot more pep. The next warm day I will take it down to my "testing grounds" and use the Drag Racer app to see if i turn a better 1/8 mile time.

I made a bracket for the seat belts too. It's hard to see in the photo but it's 1/4" steel with gussets for the tabs. There is another piece of 1/4" steel the same width and length on the backside of the body. The 2 pieces sandwich the back body using 7/16" grade 8 bolts. Later on when I add a roll bar that is tied into the frame i will tie this bar into the roll bar. I'd eventually like to run this car at one of the Loring Timing Association's land speed events in Maine to see what it will do which is why I want to add the rollbar. I will have 4 point seat belts in it by then too.

Last night I upholstered the seat back. It's 4" foam with badding attached to 1/4" birch plywood. I will screw another piece of 1/4" plywood to the body and use velcro to hold it in place. I was even able to get the stripes to line up! Now I'm going to make a thinner pad at the top to help fill in the gap between the body lip and seat back. It will be 2" foam and tan fabric.

Nice work! ...... Wish I could do upholstery.

Thanks! This was my first time. I just kept refolding the corner and trimmed a little excess fabric off each time till i got the corners how I wanted them to lay. It was fun figuring it out.

Rick, I am still learning how to sew stuff up. Here is the seat that I did for the Econoline project. Almost done now and all that is left is the carpet.
I sure would like to come see you next winter if the Universe + the moons and stars align !!!

Could you take a pic of your lid, sure would clarify a few things for us in the States ???

Or would that be too scary for us to contemplate, once we looked in ?
